The Hikmicro Condor CQ50L in the test – all-rounder thermal imaging camera for field hunting

The Hikmicro Condor CQ50L represents the last model in the successful Condor series and impresses with its outstanding performance. Equipped with a 50 mm lens and a high-resolution 640 × 512 pixel VOx sensor, this device is aimed primarily at demanding users who need a long range and excellent image quality In our test, we took a closer look at the CQ50L – from the features to the scope of delivery and the technical details.

The Hikmicro Condor CQ50L review

The scope of delivery of the Hikmicro Condor CQ50L

The CQ50L also comes with a extensive scope of delivery, which offers everything that is needed for immediate use is necessary. What is particularly positive is that the device is supplied with three batteries - an important point, as the high imaging performance of the CQ50L requires a corresponding power supply. The following elements are included in the delivery:

  • A nylon bag

  • A Quick Start Guide in German (you will receive a detailed operating manual from us by email or via your customer account)

  • A wrist strap for the device

  • A cleaning cloth

  • USB-C charging cable / data cable

  • Charging cradle for the batteries

  • Three 18650 batteries

Compact design and high energy – the features of the Hikmicro Condor CQ50L in the test

The Hikmicro Condor CQ50L is characterized by its compact and robust design which makes the device ideal for long-term use. With a weight of around 540 g (including batteries), it is not the lightest device, but thanks to its ergonomics very comfortable to handle and really nice to handle. The hand strap is individually adjustable so that the device sits securely and firmly in the hand – regardless of whether the conditions are dry or wet. The rubberized casing in particular ensures that the CQ50L remains easy to grip even in difficult weather conditions.

The magnetic lens caps is another useful improvement that ensures that the lid does not dangle around but is securely attached to the side of the device. This contributes to better handling and also prevents annoying noises that could be problematic when hunting.

The laser rangefinder is rotated downwards, which keeps the device pleasantly slim and does not become too bulbous.

Further important features, which we have for you in Hikmicro Condor CQ50L found include the following:

  • Battery changing system: The battery changing system of the CQ50L is one of the outstanding features that sets it apart from many other thermal imaging cameras. Instead of special batteries, Hikmicro handelsüblich to 18650 batteries, which are readily available and inexpensive. This means that you are not dependent on expensive special batteries and can easily replace the batteries. However, due to the high energy requirements of the CQ50L, we recommend that you always charge all three batteries supplied and take them with you, as the device lasts around two hours per battery depending on the intensity of use and activated functions. As with the other models, the charging station can be used variably, so that you can also charge other battery sizes here.
  • Tilt sensor: Another practical feature is the integrated Tilt sensor, which automatically puts the device into standby mode when it is not in use. This extends the battery life considerably, especially on longer hunting trips. We think that's really great!
  • Laser range finder: The laser rangefinder of the CQ50L allows distances of up to 1000 meters to measure. The precision of this system is particularly impressive, even in difficult lighting conditions or high humidity. However, if reflective surfaces or extreme weather conditions affect the measurement, the laser may not work optimally - but this is a normal occurrence for such systems. The Diamond in the target window helps you to precisely capture the laser targets so that you can take accurate measurements even at greater distances.
  • Zoom Pro mode and picture-in-picture function: One of the most innovative features of the CQ50L is the Zoom Pro Mode, which was specifically developed to minimize the typical problems of digital zooms. With many thermal imaging cameras, a higher zoom level leads to a deterioration in image quality, as the image becomes grainy and blurred. Not so with the CQ50L: Here, the image is automatically recalculated so that it remains clear and detailed even at high magnification. This makes the device unbeatable, especially when hunting at long distances. In addition, the CQ50L offers the Picture-in-picture mode, where the main image is retained and an enlarged image section is placed over it. This ensures that you can still keep an overview even at high magnification - a great advantage when targeting game at long distances.

Technical details of the Hikmicro Condor CQ50L reviews

A highlight of the CQ50L is the 640 × 512 pixel VOx sensor, which together with the 50 mm lens enables a remarkable detection range of up to 2600 meters. We consider it realistic to be able to identify game and differentiate the game structure precisely at around 300 to 400 meters. This makes the device particularly interesting for users who cover long distances for example when hunting in the field. Thanks to its high resolution and advanced technology, the CQ50L delivers razor-sharp images, even in adverse weather conditions.
