ThermTec Cyclops Pro: the new quartet of thermal imaging cameras

In our test today we take the Cyclops 319 Pro under the microscope. With its field of view of 24 m, this is primarily aimed at the Forest hunters and spotters among you. We will show you the scope of delivery, the main functions and what the thermal imaging camera can do in the area. Take a look now!

The ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro Review

The scope of delivery in ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro Review

As always, we start our test with this What's in the BoxHere you can also see the attention to detail: The packaging box with its printed inside almost resembles a gift, so that even unpacking it becomes an experience. The manufacturer equips its cameras with the usual scope of delivery so that you are always well prepared. The Power plug is missing, which is a bit unfortunate. But in the age of smartphones and similar devices, everyone should already have the right model at home.

The scope of delivery includes:

  • A user manual in German with insert for the app
  • A cloth bag
  • A cleaning cloth
  • A hand strap
  • A neck loop
  • A data cable
  • A charging cable

The operating features in ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro Review

The ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro looks quite bulky and heavy – but remains pleasant to the touch and fits well in the hand. With a weight of 484 g, however, it should still be a Find space in every backpackThe relatively high weight is due to the large battery; the manufacturer specifies twelve hours of battery life as the ideal value.

Like the other devices in the series, the ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro complete gummed and has one IP67 protection. So you can start your hunting trip even if when the weather conditions are not ideal – great! In addition to the joystick control, you will also find a photo button and the on/off button on the device. Due to the rubber coating, however, pressing these is a little difficult, especially if you are wearing gloves in low temperatures, which can be a little tricky.

The lens ring can be easily turned to focus. However, the diopter adjustment could be better processed as it adjusts without any clicks or resistance, making it difficult to find the right setting!

The lens itself is protected by a rubber cover on a strap. This definitely does its job, but you have to expect that, especially in sub-zero temperatures, the Hardness in rubber can vary, which means that the hold is no longer 100% and the rubber falls off the lens.

The eyepiece rubber could be a challenge for people who wear glasses: This is unfortunately not foldable – here you have to see if and how much this bothers you in your everyday hunting life. For hunters who can manage without glasses, however, the eyepiece rubber is pleasantly flat and seals well with the eye.On the bottom of the device you will find a Thread for a carrying strap – we can really warmly recommend our Thermal Neckband recommend! Alternatively, you can of course fix the camera on a tripod.

  • Operation via the cursor: The menu is controlled largely via the cursor on the top of the camera. One press and the round short menu opens, which you can use to change the color palettes, zoom in and out, or activate the AI measurement. If you press the cursor twice in quick succession, the main menu opens with all the settings - the Cyclops 319 Pro really has a lot to offer! Using a practical tree diagram, you can activate the picture-in-picture mode, use hot spot tracking, or activate the WiFi, to name just a few. The options are really very wide-ranging, so it definitely takes some time to get to grips with the various functions. The header on the display makes it a little easier - here you can see which menu items you can activate with a blue background - great!
  • Extensive image and color modes: The image adjustment options make every hunter's heart beat faster: six possible color palettes, ten brightness levels and several contrast levels. You can really adjust the device individually to your preferences or the situation. ThermTec tries to do justice to every single hunter through the strong customization options in order to offer a unique hunting experience. Absolutely great!
At this point, however, a note: Please note that all ThermTec Devices are often relatively bright. If you have sensitive eyes, you will have to experiment a little to find the setting that suits you best. We personally had no problems, but we have also received feedback from our customers that even the lowest brightness level was perceived as too bright. So, definitely give it a try!
  • Play video on device: A small but definitely one of the best features of the ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro is the ability to play videos and recordings directly on the device itself, instead of first transferring the files to an external device such as a smartphone or laptop. You can store up to 16 GB of material directly locally. ThermTec listened to the feedback of customers and implemented the request for this feature. This is of course interesting for the hunters among you who primarily go to the hunting grounds to observe and spot - this way you can see directly on the spot in which direction the animals have wandered.
  •

  • Measurement with artificial intelligence: The AI distance measurement with deep learning algorithm recognizes up to six objects or people and provides quick distance data. With a suitable app on your phone or another device of your choice, you will be notified immediately when something moves in front of the camera. The messages not only tell you how far away the object is, but also whether it is an animal or a person. The AI only serves as an aid and should not be viewed as a precise measuring instrument. We personally hardly use this feature - but maybe you see it differently? Let us know!

Technical details of the ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro thermal imaging camera

19 lens, the 384 sensor and a Field of view of almost 24 m is aimed at ThermTec Cyclops 319 Pro primarily to forest hunters and spottersLike all models in the series, the 319 Pro makes a good impression. Points are deducted for the digital zoom - in theory, this offers up to six zoom levels, but in practice it turns out that the image becomes a little pixelated from the second level onwards.

In general, it can be said that the entire series, regardless of whether it is a large or small sensor rather less image details This is absolutely fine up close, but if you look a little further into the stock, the depiction almost resembles a watercolor.
