The ThermTec Wild 635L Review

As usual, we start our test with the scope of delivery. This is identical to the other models of the Wild series and contains everything you need to get the device up and running immediately. Noteworthy is the high-quality black carrying bag, which the ThermTec Wild 635L. This bag is of exceptionally high quality! It has a modular carrying system (Molle) that allows for versatile attachment to different equipment, including vests. There are also side attachment points for a collar and a small carabiner on the back. In our opinion, this is definitely a clear plus point!

The operating features of the ThermTec Wild 635L in review

The device offers some interesting innovations: The laser is discreetly mounted on the bottom, which means it doesn't add any bulk and the device remains compact - a design that is rarely found in most manufacturers. A special highlight is the lens cap, which closes not only securely but also silently thanks to an integrated spring. So you don't have to worry about unwanted noises scaring away the game. Thanks to the internal focusing, you no longer need to touch the lens to focus.

Another cool feature is the Integration of the eyepiece rubber into the diopter adjustment, what a smooth and absolutely clear visual experience - really impressive! Even though the eyepiece rubber cannot be folded down, you can easily use the device with your right or left eye, which makes it particularly practical for everyday hunting. There are also two eyelets on the sides for attaching a wrist strap, so that both right- and left-handed people get their money's worth.

  • Joystick control: ThermTec has the Wild series retain the proven operating concept of the previous Cyclops series, which is almost a trademark of the manufacturer. In addition to separate buttons for photo/video and on/off, the control is via a small joystick in combination with a rotary wheel. This arrangement enables a intuitive one-handed operation, for both right- and left-handed users. The joystick controls the menu navigation: pressing it confirms a selection, a right click opens the quick menu for the color palettes, and a left click activates the AI-based distance measurement. Forward and backward movements zoom in, and a double click takes you to the main menu. However, it should be noted that the Operation with gloves somewhat more difficult due to the sensitivity of the joystick could be.
  • Laser range finder: The ThermTec Wild 635L has a AI-based distance measurement, which allows rough estimates. Although the measurements are not precise, they are useful for initial assessments. Thanks to the LRF Boost Technology However, in combination with a compact laser rangefinder and AI distance measurement, precise measurement with the highest accuracy and performance is achieved in different scenarios.
  • Removable battery system: The ThermTech Wild 635L has a replaceable battery system and is powered by conventional 18560 batteries. The manufacturer specifies a running time of 8 hours, although this value was measured under ideal conditions. It remains to be seen how the batteries perform in practice, especially at low temperatures. So make your own experiences - we are looking forward to your reports!
The battery system can be charged via a Open and close the double-locked snap lock – be particularly careful here: the latch closes really tightly. There is a plus point for the charging cradle included in the delivery: it can be used in a variety of ways. The batteries supplied do not have a head - so make sure you insert them correctly.
  • Internal focus: What we like about the Wild series, as well as the ThermTech Wild 635L, especially enthusiastic, is the internal focus, which can be conveniently controlled with your finger using a small rotary wheel on the housing. Instead of having to laboriously reach for the lens, focusing can now be done comfortably and ergonomically with one hand. This leaves the other hand free - a clear advantage and a unique feature of the manufacturer!

Equipped with a 640 sensor and 2x magnification, it offers a large field of view of 22 meters, which is particularly advantageous for stand hunting, stalking and forest hunting. It can also be used in the field, as the large sensor enables good digital magnificationto better target game. Our conclusion on ThermTec Game 635L

The ThermTec Wild 635L impresses with its first-class optics, the laser rangefinder and a variety of innovative functions, which make it the ideal choice for both hunters and nature observers. The Wild 635L is particularly suitable for use in the forest, at the feeding station and for stalking hunters. However, those who frequently hunt in open areas such as fields or meadows should rather opt for the ThermTec Wild 650, which performs better in such environments. However, the Wild 635L is still a clear purchase recommendation as a reliable thermal imaging handheld device!
