ThermTec Wild 335 test: What the device can do in mixed areas

August 27, 2024

ThermTec Wild 335 – what can the device do?

We'll ask you this ThermTec Wild 335. The 35mm lens and the 3,3x basic magnification should appeal especially to those hunters who often go out in mixed areas - in the forest as well as in the field. But what could be interesting for everyone is the internal focusing, which is operated via a small rotary wheel on the housing.

As always, we start our test with the scope of delivery - at this point we would like to point out that delivery scopes can always vary. In our test, for example, we did not include any batteries, but we are convinced that these will definitely be included later. It is best to always check our website carefully before you place your order to see what you can expect here - even if you have already seen our video. Here we usually show you prototypes that the manufacturer provides us with.

The scope of delivery includes:

  • Camera storage bag with strap
  • Battery charger including storage bag
  • 2x 18650 battery
  • Hand Strap
  • USB data cable
  • Cleaning Cloth
  • Quickstart / Instructions

The operating features of the ThermTec Wild 335 in review

The ThermTec Wild 335 is in terms of size, excellently done – it is neither too big nor too small, Fits comfortably in your hand and is not top-heavy. At first glance the device appears high quality, the rubberized surface feels very pleasant and conveys a high quality. The Wild series is made of a Made of magnesium alloythat for high structural strength with minimal weight The rubber coating protects the housing from scratches and improves stability for a long service life.

Here has ThermTec really learned from the past: Compared to the older Cyclops series from ThermTec, which are also good, but have not yet completely convinced in terms of grip and feel, here a significant improvement achieved – we think that’s great.

Particularly impressive is the seamless integration of the eyepiece rubber into the diopter adjustment, which creates a smooth and seamless look – really great! In addition, the device can can be applied to both the left and right eye, which is very practical in everyday hunting. There are also two eyelet holders on the sides to which the hand strap can be attached, for example – here too, designed to meet the needs of both right- and left-handed peopleThe Wild 335 has a thread on the bottom to which the carrying strap included in delivery can be attached.

The lens cap closes silently and securely thanks to the integrated spring. You don't have to worry about scaring away the game with annoying rattling.

  • Joystick control:
We already know this feature from the Cyclops series: The menu is controlled by the ThermTec Wild 335 via a joystick on the top of the camera. You can navigate through the device menu completely intuitively and Confirm your selection by pressing the joystick. If you push the stick to the right, the quick menu for selecting the color palette opens, to the left, you activate the measurement using artificial intelligence. If you move the cursor forwards or backwards, you zoom in and out. A quick double click finally takes you to the main menu. However, note that operation with gloves may be limited, as the joystick is very sensitive.
  • Measurement with artificial intelligence:
The ThermTec Wild 335 is equipped with an AI distance measurement. However, the measurement results are rough guidelines to understand. You won't be able to get exact measurements with it, but for a first assessment as a supporting aid, this feature is not bad at all. However, if you need a more precise measurement, you should take a look at the Wild 335 L, which is equipped with a real laser rangefinder.
  • Revised menu:
The The main menu has been completely redesigned and is now even more intuitive than before. The pictograms are a little clearer and, above all, larger than in comparable previous series. This should really make everyone find your way around intuitively. This is really a great improvement to the Cyclops series. Great!
  • Removable battery system:
The device uses a Removable battery system with replaceable 18650 batteries, which the manufacturer specifies as having an operating time of around 8 hours per battery. In our test, however, we usually got around 6 hours. In temperatures above zero and with WiFi switched off, the 8 hours are certainly achievable. The battery system can be opened and closed using a double-locked snap fastener. However, you have to be a little careful when changing the battery: Unfortunately, the change is not silentThe charging cradle included in delivery can be used in a variety of ways.
  • Internal focus:
That probably most innovative feature of the Wild series is the internal focusing, which you can easily operate with your finger via a small rotary wheel on the housing. You do not have to reach to the front of the lens to focus the device on the lens side, as is usual and is the case with most manufacturers. This is a really great solution and enables a comfortable and ergonomic one-hand operation. Thumbs up!

Technical details of the ThermTec Wild 335 Review

The ThermTec Wild 335 is equipped with a 35mm lens and a 384mm sensor Due to the basic magnification of 3,3, you also have to rely on a relatively narrow field of view of just under 13 to 14 m The field hunters and forest hunters among you will be fine with it; however, at the feeding station or when stalking, the field of view is simply too small, as you have to turn a lot to get a good view of the surroundings. Image performance itself is absolutely sufficient, even if the house's attachments ThermTec still perform better than the handheld devices in this respect. Larger animals and game species can be easily identified up to 300 m awayFor smaller, stocky predators such as badgers or foxes, we consider a maximum limit of 100 to 150 m to be more realistic.

Do you value a great deal of detail?, we can recommend you to take a look at the wild devices with the larger sensors such as the ThermTec Wild 635 or the ThermTec Wild 650 to throw.
